Swatch Major Series calendar confirmed for the summer season
The 2017 beach volleyball summer season is shaping up to be one to remember!
High-class beach volleyball was the order of the day in Florida where Brazil stormed to both gold medals and put down an early marker for beach dominance in this hugely important year at the beach.
Yes, it’s a super serious summer for every star on the World Tour. Not only are they competing to earn the ranking points to compete in the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals in Hamburg, they are also vying for places in the 2017 World Championships in Vienna.
So expect fireworks on the sand as the top teams go head-to-head in the battle to earn their spots at these two massively prestigious tournaments.
The stars need to be on their game, though, and that means the race is on to earn precious ranking points, which are up for grabs in a host of mouth-watering tournaments between now and July.
With Fort Lauderdale Major already in the bag, the next opportunity for Swatch Major Series points comes between June 27 – July 2 as the FIVB World Tour heads to the clear blue shores of Poreč, Croatia.
There’s no rest for the wicked as the following week we pack our bags and head up to the picturesque Swiss Alps and take beach volleyball to Gstaad once more. It’s a tournament loved by players, cows (yes, cows) and fans alike and we can’t wait to get our groove on in the Gstaadium once more.
In between, as you can see from the calendar, there’s also a five-star tournament in Rome in June, plus four-star competitions in Rio, Lucerne and Olsztyn.
With the stakes high at every tournament – it promises to be a typically thrilling summer of beach volleyball…and we can’t wait for it to start!
Bring on the summer – but if you can’t wait until then, head to our BeachStream channel to re-live all of the action on and off the sand from the Fort Lauderdale Major!
Swatch Major Series summer schedule: Poreč Major June 27-July 2; Gstaad Major, Switzerland July 4-9, Swatch World Tour Finals, Hamburg August 22-27.
